I am African American, Blackfoot Indian, Dutch and French. I am Mixed. I am an American. As a multiracial woman, I grew up with many stereotypical statements and ideas about who I am. My work steams from a question I have been asked several times, “What part do you own?” referring to each individual race. Mixed reflects my answer, “All of them”. I am exploring symbols, traditions and oral histories behind my different heritages. Though each culture has their own unique qualities, the boundaries blur and their histories interweave together, sharing common qualities.
